Rumor: Nintendo & Nokia Worked On A Phone Together

Rumor: Nintendo & Nokia Worked On A Phone TogetherSony and Google's rumoured partnership may be the gaming phone news of today, but sources speaking with Pocket Gamer reckon that a few years back, Nintendo was in bed with a phone company too.

That company was Nokia, and during the early 2000s the Finnish phone giant and Nintendo had plans to release a portable gaming device that doubled as a phone. These plans - with the device being worked on by Nintendo's R&D team in Japan - made it all the way up to Nintendo's board of directors before being binned.

Its deal with Nintendo coming to nothing, Nokia would then go on to release its own gaming/phone hybrid, the N-Gage, and, well. Yeah. It was rubbish.

No reason was given for why Nintendo backed out of the plan, but seeing as this would have taken place at the same time as planning for the DS, perhaps they wisely saw which of the two devices had a brighter future?

We're following up with Nintendo, and will update if we hear anything back.

Priceless Treasures in Zendikar Packs?!?!

courtesy of mtgsalvation

Two prominent magic journalists spoke with this individual personally, and both of them (still in disbelief) agree he is not lying.

What we think WoTC did:
In very few packs, the basic land was replaced with an old, 'priceless' card. This card is not newly printed, and not legal in standard. It was an existing card purposefully inserted into packs.
We can't yet confirm the approximate rarity of these, but a member opened TWO in ONE box...so maybe this is more common than we thought?

Rule changes were recently rolled out that specify that cards not in the set you open the booster of are not limited legal, and you keep them even in a deck swap. (Cards like the candle stick...)

The prerelease is soon, even sooner for some countries, (assuming this is a world-wide promotion) so time will tell.

Edit: This has been confirmed to be happening worldwide.

Cards claimed to have been opened include:
-Mox Diamond
-Lion's Eye Diamond
-Ancestral Recall
-Bayou
-Underground Sea
-Taiga
-Lich
-Candelabra of Tawnos

Certainly is exciting, at any rate.

Akira Live-Action Movie Still in the Works!

courtesy of io9.com

Forget what you've previously heard: The live-action movie version of Akira is still happening and, if nothing else, it's probably going to have a great script.

Collider is reporting that the silence surrounding the movie has been the result of waiting for Children of Men and Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby to complete the script, and that the project is still considered a "high priority" with a potential 2011 release date if the script is approved. Here's hoping that rumored star Joseph Gordon-Levitt won't be too busy with GI Joe sequels.

New iPhone to get More Memory, Faster Processor?

***This is a mock-up of what the iPhone 2 may look like***

Mac Rumors via Gizmodo

With the announcement of a new iPhone model seemingly imminent with Apple's WWDC event scheduled for next month, more and more supposed leaks are coming out from various sources about it. Today's rumor is that we're looking for a pretty serious speed and memory bump.

According to this screenshot, there's a model coming that will have 32GB of storage, double the RAM to 256MB and a processor bumped from 400MHz to 600MHz. In addition, the rumors say that the camera will be upgraded to 3.2MP with autofocus as well as a digital compass and FM radio. It sounds interesting, but we'll have to wait a few weeks to find out what's real and what isn't.

MTG expansion Alara Reborn rumored to be a completely multicolored set

The rumors have become one step closer to becoming a reality since WotC (Wizards of the Coast) previewed Ardent Plea, a card (well, just the picture for the card) that will be available in the next MTG (Magic the Gathering) expansion - Alara Reborn. For a couple months, people have been speculating that WotC was going to make an entire multicolor expansion considering all the emphasis on multicolor in Shards of Alara and Conflux (the 2 previous expansions). Those predictions are now one step closer to being confirmed.
