Sources high up at the WB have stated Smallville Superman will be wearing the blue and red tights along with the cape in next season's (season 9) Smallville. Many thought it would be impossible considering how continuity is very important with Smallville's writers, but as always, where there is a will, there is a way.
The writers do not want to bring in the glasses yet and because of that, Tom Welling will be wearing a cowl to hide the majority of his face. Not sure if this will give him too much of a "Batman" look, but I'm sure more eyes will be tempted to stop and tune in.
I am not sure how they will tie all of this together with the "now" Superman we all know and love. It will be interesting. I also know how they can 'story' the Doomsday theme they have running right now and cause it to flow nicely with the Lex funded excavation of doomsday in the comics...

Actually it is a modified Kryptonian symbol that stands for bringer of life or savior. Jor-El had it on his garb in Superman 1. He was arrogant but brilliant and saw himself as a savior of his world when he defeated General Zod in the second battle of Krypton. Being that he was sending the "traveler" (better know to us as his son or Kal-El) to Earth as a savior...he set him up in the same wardrobe to make you look like an idiot on Ray's Blog on this very day! It's weird how that happens eh Gordo?! ;)
